Study on the improvement of preventive dentistry instruction at dental schools

Abstract

|
To develop effective curriculum of preventive dentistry instruction at dental schools, the authors evaluated the questionnaire of 40 items with a 5 point likert response format. 315 sophomore students in department of dentistry, Seoul National University responded. And the questionnaire was about general processing of instruction, content of instruction, loads of task, attitude of students to the instruction and the content of general practices. The evaluation was performed at the end of final term periods from 2001 to 2003.
The results were as follows;
1. The respondents were generally satisfied with general processing, of instruction and contents of preventive dentistry instruction.
2. The respondents took a negative view on the content of general practices.
3. More provocative instruction is needed in preventive dentistry instruction and practice.
4. To improve preventive dentistry instruction, development of problem-based learning package at dental schools could be helpful.
